For more than twenty years, I have been actively involved in the industrial manufacturing and export sectors. Throughout my career, I have worked with hundreds of companies from different countries, and I have noticed one common characteristic among the most successful businesses.

Their success is not determined by the size of their factories, the sophistication of their machinery, or the amount of capital they possess. The real difference lies in one critical factor: their ability to adapt quickly to change.

Today, Artificial Intelligence dominates conversations across every industry. Some believe it is just another temporary technology trend, while others predict that it will eliminate countless professions.

In my opinion, the truth lies somewhere between these two extremes.

Artificial Intelligence alone will not destroy companies. However, companies that successfully integrate AI into their operations will gradually outperform those that choose to ignore it. To understand why, we need to look back at the history of the Industrial Revolutions.

The First Industrial Revolution, which began in the late eighteenth century, transformed history through the invention of the steam engine.

Before this period, manufacturing relied almost entirely on manual labor and craftsmanship. Steam power enabled the creation of factories, dramatically increased production capacity, and significantly reduced manufacturing costs.

Small workshops that failed to embrace this transformation gradually lost their competitiveness. At the time, many business owners probably believed that their traditional methods would always be sufficient.

History proved otherwise.

It remembers those who embraced change—not those who resisted it.

The Second Industrial Revolution introduced electricity as the driving force behind industrial production.

Henry Ford’s moving assembly line revolutionized not only the automotive industry but manufacturing as a whole. Companies could now produce the same product faster, with higher quality, and at a much lower cost.

Businesses that invested in electricity and mass production expanded rapidly.

Those that continued relying on outdated methods steadily lost market share.

Beginning in the 1970s, computers, PLC systems, CNC machines, and industrial robots became essential components of modern manufacturing.

Machines were no longer simply operating mechanically—they were electronically controlled. Production planning became digital, quality records were computerized, and business operations became increasingly data-driven.

During this period, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, barcode technologies, and the Internet became standard business tools.

Even today, much of the digital infrastructure used by manufacturers around the world was built during this era.

Today, we are experiencing an even greater transformation.

Industry 4.0 is no longer just about automation.

Machines communicate with one another.

Sensors continuously collect millions of data points.

Artificial Intelligence analyzes this data.

Robots optimize their own operations.

Quality inspections are performed by computer vision systems.

Maintenance teams are alerted before equipment failures occur rather than after.

This is no longer the future.

It is today’s reality.

In the past, managers waited for reports.

Today, they make decisions using real-time data.

Many people believe Artificial Intelligence will replace humans.

I do not share that view.

The primary objective of Industry 5.0 is not to remove people from production but to combine human creativity with the analytical power of Artificial Intelligence.

AI can analyze millions of data points within seconds.

However, building customer relationships, making strategic decisions, managing crises, and driving innovation remain fundamentally human strengths.

The most successful companies of the future will not see people and technology as competitors.

They will see them as teammates.

This question deserves an honest answer.

Türkiye has many world-class manufacturing companies that successfully use robotics, automation, and advanced production technologies while competing internationally.

However, a significant number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) still operate somewhere between Industry 2.0 and Industry 3.0.

Production schedules are often managed through Excel spreadsheets.

Business data is scattered across multiple computers.

Machine performance cannot always be monitored in real time.

Many business decisions still rely primarily on management experience rather than data.

These methods may have worked in the past.

They may not be sufficient for tomorrow’s competitive environment.

The answer can be found in history.

No company collapses overnight.

Growth begins to slow.

Operating costs increase.

Customers gradually move to competitors.

Profit margins shrink.

Talented employees leave.

Investments are postponed.

Financial pressure grows.

Eventually, companies are forced to downsize, merge, be acquired, or cease operations altogether.

The same pattern may repeat itself today.

Companies that successfully implement Artificial Intelligence are already:

  • Preparing quotations faster.
  • Managing inventory more accurately.
  • Optimizing energy consumption.
  • Reducing quality defects.
  • Better understanding customer demands.
  • Researching export markets more efficiently.
  • Producing more with fewer resources.

Businesses that continue relying entirely on manual processes will likely face increasing challenges over time.

The greatest danger is often invisible.

Losing a few customers every year.

Accepting slightly lower profit margins.

Delivering products just a little later than competitors.

These seemingly minor losses accumulate until they become a significant competitive disadvantage.

As someone working extensively in international trade, I can confidently say that customer expectations are changing rapidly.

Today, manufacturing high-quality products alone is no longer enough.

International buyers increasingly expect:

  • Complete production traceability.
  • Digitally managed quality documentation.
  • Sustainability reporting.
  • Fast quotation preparation.
  • Accurate technical documentation.
  • Continuous and effective communication.

Artificial Intelligence provides substantial advantages in every one of these areas.

For this reason, future competition in export markets will be determined not only by price but also by technology, efficiency, and speed.

One of the statements I hear most often is:

“Artificial Intelligence will take away our jobs.”

I believe this perspective is incomplete.

The same fears existed when computers entered offices.

When the Internet transformed communication.

When industrial robots entered factories.

Yet every technological revolution created new professions, new industries, and new opportunities.

The same transformation is happening today.

Artificial Intelligence is not replacing accountants, export managers, engineers, or executives.

Instead, it is becoming a powerful assistant that enables them to make faster, smarter, and more informed decisions.

The real risk is not Artificial Intelligence itself.

The real risk is refusing to learn how to use it.

Every Industrial Revolution has taught humanity the same lesson:

Change waits for no one.

Those who rejected steam power disappeared.

Those who underestimated electricity fell behind.

Those who ignored computers lost their competitive advantage.

Today, Artificial Intelligence presents us with the same challenge.

I remain optimistic about the future because Türkiye possesses a strong manufacturing culture, an entrepreneurial workforce, and decades of international business experience.

With the right investments, the right mindset, and the willingness to embrace innovation, Artificial Intelligence should not be viewed as a threat—it should be recognized as one of the greatest opportunities of our time.

The time to act is now.

Instead of seeing Artificial Intelligence as a competitor, we should integrate it into every aspect of our business processes.

Because in the future, companies will not fail because of Artificial Intelligence.

They will fail because their competitors used it better.
